Elizabeth Scott is a Director of the leading triathlon coaching companythetrilife.com. She has kindly shared her tip of the month:
You may have done your first race by now – how were your transitions? You can practice your T1 (swim to bike) transition after every open water swim session. Here are my tips for a faster T1:
- As soon as you exit the water lift your goggles on to your swim cap. Do not take them off at this stage as this will mean you have to carry cap and goggles while starting to get your wetsuit off
- Next step - put one hand round to the back of your suit and pull down on the zipper at the same time lifting the velcro fastening at the top of the suit with the other
- As you are running towards transition, remove your arms from the wetsuit- you should be running with your wetsuit removed down to your waist
- Once back at your bike, remove your swim cap and goggles, grab a big roll of wetsuit at your waist and in one swift movement push down to your feet. Your wetsuit should come off over your knees, down to your ankles in one movement
- While putting on your cycling helmet, remove the wetsuit from over your ankles by standing on the wetsuit with one foot and lifting the other leg up so that the wetsuit pulls off over your lifted foot!
- Practice, practice, practice!
www.thetrilife.com will be practicing transition skills at the Castle Series Training Days.
