New Year’s Resolutions – and how to keep them!

Christmas is over and it’s a new year. January and February can be the hardest months to keep motivated as it is dark and cold. Do not panic though, as here are a few tips to help keep you on track so you can be fighting fit for your first triathlon later in the year.
- Firstly buy yourself a calendar and mark clearly the dates of all your planned races for the year.
- Put the calendar in a place that you pass by regularly as a daily reminder of the races (the fridge?!)
- If you can get a picture or two of the race out of a triathlon magazine, pin that up too.
- If Santa didn’t buy you any new training kit for Christmas, treat yourself to some in the sales. Nothing motivates you more than some nice new kit to train in.
- Persuade your partner or a friend to train with you too. A regular training buddy is a real help, especially on days when you may be feeling tired or the weather is miserable.
- Plan out in advance several running and cycling routes of varying distances and drive around them in the car so you know them quite well. It’s great to have a few routes that you can run or cycle when you need to get out of the door quickly and not have to worry about where or how far you are going to go.
- If you are not a member of a triathlon or masters swim club find out when the pool has lane swimming only so you know you’ll be able to turn up and swim in an orderly fashion without having to fight the public.
- Finally why not get yourself a Coach who can do all the thinking and planning for you on www.thetrilife.com.
