Race Preparation

Training Days

Being prepared for your triathlon improves your confidence and confidence improves your performance! Book a session on a Castle Preparation Day.

Preparation Days

Practice makes perfect. thetrilife.com will be holding Castle Triathlon Series specific Preparation Days at the venues where you will be racing (Hever, Howard and Cholmondeley Castles).

Preparation Sessions will include:

  • Open water swim session – perfect if this is your first time open water swimming. You will get used to swimming in a wetsuit as well as learning about course sighting, turning and how to deal with a mass start!
  • Transition skills – what do you do in transition? You will learn how you should lay out your kit, how to prepare your bike, how to do things quickly and the rules that you need to know. Our coaches will have you running with your bike like a pro!
  • And finally – a race day walk through. Get all your questions answered from “what time do I need to be at the venue” to “where is the finish line” and everything in between.

After the session there will be an opportunity to join a ride around the bike course.

Adult Training Sessions

Whether you are looking forward to your first ever triathlon, whether you are stepping up in distance or whether you are looking for time saving en-route to a new PB, being prepared improves your confidence and confidence improves your performance.

thetrilife.com preparation sessions have been designed specifically for first time and novice triathletes. Our goal, as your coaches, is to develop your skills, build your confidence, answer your questions (you can ask us anything!) and prepare you for your event – and if this is not your first time we will provide you with tips and advice to help you achieve more in your next event!

Children's open water and transition training sessions

Not forgetting the juniors!

These are 75 min sessions designed for 8-15 year olds and will be held on the same day as the adults above.

Starting an open water triathlon with confidence is key for every competitor, but children particularly like to know what to expect and feel adequately prepared. This is a great opportunity for young athletes who have not swum in open water before or are apprehensive about the transition and would like to build confidence and technique before the race.

Our junior open water sessions and transitions sessions are always hugely popular and very successful, so we are holding these at each of our Castle Preparation Days.

Training Day Testmonials

“The coldness of the water, the fact it was so hard to see underwater compared with a pool, and so hard to swim in a straight line, were all things I learnt and will help me with my first triathlon.” Junior Triathlete

“Open water training built more confidence and made me aware of what to expect (and how cold Hever Lake is and will be). Both the Transition and Race Day walk through were extremely thorough and no bit of detail was too small to deal with, so much so I have already ordered my stretch laces!” Hever Castle adult triathlete

“The whole day was well organized, coaches were excellent and approachable. A bonus was the camaraderie felt between the lot of us being trained.” Adult triathlete

“The highlight was open water swimming – even though there’s a lake not far from where I live that I could swim in more, it’s sometimes a bit daunting to turn up on your own and try to figure things out. Being able to be in a group environment where there are others in the same situation as you really does help with your nerves and helps you feel less daunted.” Castle Howard adult triathlete
