The 2017 Series kicks off in the beautiful Co Galway with the Lough Cutra Castle Triathlon taking place on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th May. We look forward to welcoming competitors and supporters to this stunning location.

Triathlon Ireland sanctioned event - No licence, no race!

ALL participants are required to produce either a triathlon governing body membership card or a Triathlon Ireland One Day licence on arriving at the Registration Tent.

Members: If you belong to a governing body of triathlons, remember to bring your membership card.

Non-members: Please bring the printout confirmation of your One Day Licence.

Familiarise yourself with the course

Lough Cutra Castle Triathlon is an exciting and busy event with 12 different courses taking place throughout the weekend. There will be a full brief before your race start but it is important to familiarise yourself with the course and in particular any key junctions to ensure you take the correct route.

Water temperature

Wetsuits are optional but advisable

Water Temp currently stands at 16°C (as of 10am Monday 25th).  Wetsuits are optional but advisable.

See hire details here for both adults and children. If you like your hire wetsuit, you have the option to purchase it after your race.

Transition Bike Area

Space in transition is limited. Please bring a suitable sized transition container to keep your gear together and safe.

ADULTS! REMEMBER transition opens for the children’s races at 12.30pm.  Please remove your bike & gear straight after the completion of your race. Your cooperation is gratefully received.

PARENTS! One adult per child can go through registration. One adult per child in the 8 – 10yrs races may enter transition.  PLEASE RESPECT the competitor’s in the transition area; stay by your child’s racking position. You may assist with the removal of a wetsuit and racking the bike, but that’s it – the rest is up to them!

Triathlon Ireland Events

It’s going to be a Super Saturday at this year’s Lough Cutra Castle Triathlon on May 27th with Ireland’s Cat 1 and Cat 2 top age groupers battling it out in the first event of the 2017 Sprint Super Series, the only one in the West of Ireland. In addition Cat 2 will be eligible to score points in the Triathlon Ireland National Series while competing in this Super Series. Full details here.

A further 200 participants have taken advantage of this new distance on offer at Lough Cutra and will be racing on a NON DRAFT course later on in the morning.

The Mixed Team Relay Club Championships will be be the final event of the day. These Champs are run to ITU standards and all participants must hold a full TI Licence and team members must belong to the same club. See requirements here

This course is also open to all, and participants who are racing over the weekend can get a 50% discount on the full price.  Email us here to apply. The new and exciting format involves a four person teams; each completing a 250m swim, 5km bike and 1.5km run as part of a tag team. Read more here

The Super Series and Mixed Team Relay Club Championships distances form part of the the Triathlon Ireland Series and participants are bound by their rules and regulations. Triathlon Ireland have appointed several officials to ensure these are adhered to.

Registration opening times

Pre-Race Day Registration
Friday 26th and Saturday 27th from 4.30-5.30pm.

(Licence documentation and race packet pick up. No overnight bike racking facility.)

Any competitors that can make it are welcome but please be on time, as these are strict opening times.

IMPORTANT: We will register competitors in wave order. Therefore please arrive at the registration tent 1 – 1.5hours before your given wave start time (1.5hrs is recommended for Gauntlet half iron competitors).

Have your race licence admin ready!

Wave sheets

Wave spreadsheets (below) are in alphabetical order and include your wave number and start time.

Competition waves (This year only applies to Olympic distance.)

We adopt an ‘Opt In’ format to bring forward the Prize Giving Ceremony. With the exception of the third Olympic wave, all waves will be q Competition Wave. Those in the Olympic Non Competition waves (see section “Schedule of Wave Times” below) will not be considered in the prize giving on the day.

Competition waves include people that have ‘opted in’ during online registration and those with fast projected finish times. For a full explanation of why we have adopted this system, please click here.

Spectators

Family and friends are required to produce a Spectator Voucher for free entry

Competitor’s supporters can gain free entry to this event via a ‘Spectator Voucher’. Vouchers can be downloaded from the Competitor’s Race Entry Confirmation email.

The entry fee for all other visiting spectators (not accompanying competitors) is:
€5 (+16 years)
€3 (+6years).
5years and under go free

Unfortunately we are unable to take card payments, please bring cash/cheque to the event.

Live music, retail outlets, children’s entertainment and food and drink, along with the stunning Castle grounds are all set to entertain your friends and family when they are not cheering you on. Please share the Spectator Guide with your supporters.

If you have booked Camping at Lough Cutra Castle, please read the Campsite Details document before you arrive and check the List of Bookings to confirm you are on the list.
