Hot on the heels of 2017’s mile, 2.5km and 5km swims at the Hever Castle Triathlon, 2018 sees Castle Swim Series races extended to all castle venues in the Castle Triathlon Series.
I took part in the 2.5k swim last year, with the swim beginning in front of the Italian loggia. From there, the route ventured across the lake towards the Japanese tea house. The swim then turns into River Eden channel and circumnavigates the Hever Castle Estate’s island before returning to the lake near the loggia and the finish line. The narrow river channel offers a completely different swimming experience to the lake, with the combination of two bodies of water making this a varied and memorable swim that’s far from the norm.
The whole event was well-organised, with all swimmers enjoying the scenic routes, alongside the Hever Castle Triathlon festival. All swimmers finished on the loggia at the swimmer’s finish line, where medals were handed out to all swimmers and a finish line banquet was laid out.
If the Hever Castle Triathlon event and Swim Only event is something to go by, each Castle Swim Series event promises to be a fantastic addition to each Castle Triathlon venue, opening up the iconic lakes to swimmers of all ages and abilities.
It’s also a great way to assess your open-water fitness ahead of your future middle- and long-distance triathlons – such as the Castle Triathlon Series’ Gauntlet and Bastion events – or a much-needed opportunity, like we experienced in 2017, to sooth your racing bug if you’re carrying bike and/or run injuries.
