With summer fast approaching, so too is the tough decision of where to go on your holiday. Spain? Switzerland? Slovakia? Wouldn’t it be nice if you didn’t have to decide on just one destination and you could explore the whole of Europe…
Well, someone who has decided to do exactly that is Sean Conway. The bearded endurance adventurer and Yellow Jersey ambassador will soon be setting off on an ultra cycling challenge with the aim of breaking the world record for the fastest crossing of Europe by bicycle. Currently, the record stands at just 29 days, 18 hours and 25 minutes, so a relaxing holiday this certainly is not.
Sean will be riding from the west coast of Portugal to Ufa, the most easterly point of Europe found deep in the heart of Russia. And forget the usual 20kg luggage allowance, as Sean’s unsupported ride will mean he has to carry all of his own kit.
If this sounds like a case of déjà vu, it’s because this is not Sean’s first attempt at this world record. Last summer, he set off to a flying start but sadly had to withdraw due to injury after just 4 days. The easy thing to do in that scenario would have been to put this idea to bed and move onto a new project. But Sean is determined to have another go and has come back stronger than ever.
Sean explained: “Too often people feel that if they don’t succeed with something then they have to give up. We’re so used to hearing about success stories, what is often missed off is how many attempts they took to get there in the first place. Life is not all about winning and breaking records, it’s about giving things the very best shot that you can, and being confident that you could not have done any more.”
Yellow Jersey are providing Sean with Bicycle Insurance and Cycle Travel Insurance. They will also be hosting a GPS tracker and video updates here so you can follow his progress every pedal of the way.
Whether you’re into The Transcontinental Race or prefer to cycle from beach to bar, Yellow Jersey have policies to suit every type of cyclists.

Sean currently holds the World Record for the world’s longest triathlon, when in 2015 he became the first and only man in history to cycle, swim and run the length of Britain. Read about this epic adventure HERE.
