Having entered the virtual race was a great motivator for me as I would usually run a half marathon around this time of year (mid to late February). I wanted to get a half marathon under my belt and the virtual series seemed a perfect way to do it!
I had planned my route earlier in the week. It would be my usual weekly long run route with a little bit extra added on to make up the distance. I also did a training session on the turbo trainer the day before as I wanted my legs to get used to running feeling quite heavy and fatigued. I did live to regret that move the next day!
In end sunday 21st February was a warm day so before I set off i made sure I was well hydrated and took a couple of energy Gels with me. My legs felt quite tired from the weeks training but I was relaxed and was not too worried about time and just wanted to get the distance done and enjoy myself.
The distance ticked off nicely although towards the end I definitely felt the soreness in my feet and legs and it was a reminder that those extra few km in a half marathon do make a real difference. I was pleased to record a half marathon time of 1:29:15 for this time of year. Not my fastest but my first half marathon of 2021 and a good sense of achievement afterwards! Looking forward to the next one already – thanks Castle Series!
