Tri-Knights School Programme

A teachers guide to introducing triathlon to the school

London 2012 and Rio 2016 had a significant impact on the uptake of triathlon. The Brownlee Brothers were a huge talking point for many, with children quoting their performance as they were inspired to sign up for their triathlon.

There is evidence of an Olympic Legacy when we look at the surge of children signing up for triathlon and our experience of continuing to host the World’s largest children’s triathlon from 2013. We hope you can join this trend and be part of a magnificent sporting experience.

Whilst triathlon is currently the fastest growing sport in the world, it can be daunting for some, particularly if you are in a role of responsibility, not familiar with the sport or how to introduce it to children. It’s actually quite an accessible sport (although it can sound elite), made up of three activities that many families enjoy together at a weekend; a swim, a bike ride and a run around the playing fields.

Not only are there multiple health and social benefits but it’s also a strong platform for fundraising. Click here to read more.

We have worked with educational experts to bring this unique curriculum led triathlon resource to primary schools (KS2) and hope you enjoy the benefits it will bring to your pupils and school:

  • Excite and unite your pupils with new contemporary PE activities
  • Raises the schools profile in the local media and with future parents
  • Provide a new fundraising platform for the school or associated good cause
  • Fresh curriculum linked material helping continue the Olympic Legacy
Training the next generation

School Roadshow

We are passionate about helping schools bring to life triathlon and have done this successfully over the last 3 years through a unique cross curriculum School Roadshow.

Primary schools each bring 30 KS2 children to a Castle venue for a half-day of triathlon training and half day cultural learning about the historic venue and setting. All of the activity is curriculum linked helping schools achieve their statutory requirements whilst keeping the children healthy and inspired (by the World’s fastest growing sport). Bikes are provided for all children and elite triathletes join the training team to share insights with those attending.

The one or two day school initiative welcomes on average 10 schools a day and charges children £15 per head. To register interest for the next school roadshow please fill out the form below.

Our educational partners

We are experts in organising triathlon events and juniors participation, so to help make this resource relevant and tailored for your school’s use we have worked together with leading sport and educational experts.

Dr Jackie Farr is a Senior Lecturer in Physical Education and Sport at the University of Greenwich and has been a lead academic in helping to create a school resource that supports the current curriculum requirements.  Dr Farr has a progressive outlook on how sport can be embraced by schools and believes that triathlon is a worthy platform to help overcome the hurdles that currently exist with full exclusion.

Barnaby Gray from Sweet Chariot, has been a key contributor in 2016. His wealth of experience as Sport Director of Highfield School for 20 years, founder of the Junior Tri Club, Tri High and a Team GB Age Grouper in his own right, is unrivalled. Having joined School sport tour company Sweet Chariot this year, he can take this experience and knowledge out to more schools and bring to life ‘Tri Knights’.

Dr Elizabeth Scott is a highly qualified triathlon coach and founder of training company, thetrilife.com. Liz and her team of coaches work with elites to first timers and schools across the UK to help make the sport more accessible and everyone achieve their own goals.

The School Panel – We have been fortunate enough to have had over 650 schools (primary, secondary, state and independent) enjoy our events through the last couple of years which is one of the reasons why the programme has been inspired. To ensure the materials we have created are supportive and provide the most help possible we have shared with schools who are friends of the Series and they have kindly provided their valuable input. We would like to give a big thank you to Highfield School (Hampshire) and St Lawrence CofE Primary School (Kent).

Well done for giving it a ‘Tri’ and we look forward to welcoming you at our next event – you are part of an exciting Olympic Legacy!

The children loved their first triathlon, it was the central talking point and buzz around the school for months, and the PTA are huge fans too; we raised £12,000 to help build a new classroom!
