Are you ready for the ultimate challenge of the triathlon season? We are really looking forward to welcoming you to the Festival of Endurance at Hever Castle on Sunday 8th July.  We’re set to make this weekend the extravaganza people have come to expect.

Car Parking

Please see our Travel and Accommodation page for directions here. Please do NOT rely on your satnav, it will NOT take you to the correct entrance.

On approach to the venue, be sure to follow the Triathlon Car Park signs and you can’t go wrong! Some of you may be arriving while competitors are out on the cycle course, please drive with caution and allow plenty of time to access the car parks.

Do you have a Blue Badge carrying disabled supporter?  Please email the office for information on a more appropriate car park.

These Competitor Guides provide essential race day information, as well as an overview of how to prepare for the race and what to expect at the Event.


Course maps

The Festival of Endurance at Hever Castle is an exciting and busy event with 11 different events taking place throughout the day. There will be a full brief before each event.  Please familiarise yourself with your course and in particular any key junctions to ensure you take the correct route.

British Triathlon permitted event

British Triathlon rules are in place for all triathlon, aquabike and aquathlon participants.

If you have valid British Triathlon membership please show your card at the registration tent and no payment will be necessary.

To help reduce the queues please come with the correct change. (we cannot accept card of cheque)

Competitors are advised to familiarise themselves with the rules and regulations, otherwise you may be penalised for breaking any rule. Ignorance is no defence! If you require further information about Race Rules, please visit or telephone the British Triathlon Federation on 01509 226161.

Water Temperature

Water Temp was 19°C as of 10am Thursday 5th July 2018. Wetsuits are currently optional. We expect the water to stay around this temperature on Race Day.

Castle Run Series

To all Marathon and Half Marathon participants; please collect your race bib (with timing chip attached) from registration. The run starts in front Hever Castle, by the draw bridge. Bag drop is located by transition on the half moon lawn. Scroll down for starter list and timings.

Half Marathon Pacer Timings : 1.45hrs, 2.00hrs, 2.15hrs, 2.30hrs

Marathon Pacer Timings : 4.00hrs, 4.30hrs, 5.00hrs, 5.30hrs (this is slower paced course. This 4.30hrs on this course is equivalent to a 4.00hrs on a road course!)



Castle Swim Series

To all long swimmers; please collect your timing chip and swim hat from registration. Changing facilities are by registration and bag drop is located by transition on the half moon lawn, which is on the way to the loggia swim start.

A nutrition area will be available for all swimmers.

We’ll be waiting for you at the finish with your medal. Prizes are awarded for both wetsuit and non-wetsuit categories in all three distances.

Pre-Race Day Registration

Available for Bastion and Gauntlet participants

Pre-Race Day Registration will enable you to sort out your BTF membership, pick up your race pack, goodie bag and rack your bike. Over night bike Transition security is provided. It is not permitted to pick up a race pack on behalf of anyone else.

Bastion Full Iron:

Saturday 7th from 3pm to 5pm pre-registration opens, followed by the Race Director’s course brief at 5pm. All participants are required to attend this.

Gauntlet / British Middle Distance Championships 2018:

Saturday 7th from 11am – 2pm: pre-registration opens at 11am, followed by the Race Director’s course brief at 12noon. If you cannot attend on Saturday, please arrive 1.30hrs before your star time on Sunday morning. A shortened version of the brief will take place before each wave start time.

Saturday 7th, 1.30pm and 2.30pm: a swim practice is available to all participants.

RACE DAY Registration and Start Timings

Registration open between 5.30am and 9.45am

Swim only and Run only participants need to arrive no earlier than 45 minutes beforehand.

All other participants should aim to arrive 1.30hrs before the start of your race.

  • Gauntlet: 07:00 (MALE 19-34)
  • Gauntlet: 07:10 (MALE 35-49)
  • Gauntlet: 07:20 (FEMALE ALL & MALE 50+)
  • Aquabike: 08:00
  • Aquathlon and Swim only 09:15
  • Marathon 09:45
  • Half Marathon  10:00

Wave spreadsheets are now available to download.

These are listed by distance, then in alphabetical order* and include your wave number, start time and names of all those taking part in the Hever Castle Festival of Endurance.

The Bastion include ‘age group’ as a reference point. Prize giving remains; Male/Female First Five overall, then first three in 40+, 50+, 60+

*The Gauntlet sheet is ordered by Age Group then by Surname. Prize giving includes Male/Female first three overall and BTF members in the BTF Middle Distance Champs age group winners in 5 year categories.

The Run Series prize giving includes; Male/Female first three  overall in both distances.

The Swim Series prize giving includes; Male/Female first three overall in both the wetsuit and not wetsuit category.

The Aquabike and Aquathlon prize giving includes; Male/Female first three overall in all distances.



Transition Area

Bastion and Gauntlet competitors: Full details in the Competitor Guide.

Overnight transition bike racking facility will be available for all Bastion and Gauntlet participants who wish to make use of it.

On Race Day a covered bag drop area in transition will be available.

BOXES AND BAGS IN TRANSITION AREA Competitors are permitted to bring a box or a bag into the transition area, However, boxes and bags cannot be left alongside the bikes. Only race kit to be used can be left in that race area. All boxes and bags should be moved to the bag drop.  This area is only accessible to competitors but the organisers do not accept responsibility for the security or the safety of these items so please don’t leave valuables in them.


Six Physio

The Six Physio team will be set up in the red gazebo in the event village for anyone interested in a post-race massage. The post-event massage is on offer to all competitors at Hever, only £10 for 15 mins. Gauntlet & Bastion competitors at both Hever events get a Six Physio post-race massage for free! Spectators and camping

£10 for adults and £5 for children

Spectators are welcome. The discounted entry fee gives you full access to the event village and Castle gardens and Castle itself.

There will be retail outlets, food concessions, live music and children’s entertainment; climbing wall and inflatables along with the stunning grounds to enjoy. We recommend you bring cash to the event.  See the spectator guide for some great viewing tips.
